Take a Carp Fishing Holiday in Portugal.

Portugal is a wonderful country to take a holiday in. It is an emerging destination for carp anglers too, with two large reservoirs in close proximity to the Vineyard Retreat Bed and Breakfast. There are not many other species to be caught locally, but local anglers like catching eels and eating them, from the many streams and small rivers that exist in the spring and winter. They are all dried up in the summer of course, but when they are flowing fast and full I still have the old urges to catch chub and dace from those places. A view of the Barragem Do Sao Domingos looking down its length. The water stretches a long way back and has many small 'fingers' It is an excellent place to go rambling too. The footpath goes on several kilometres and the water is always in view. The water is very high at the moment, (April 2010) because of the excessive rainfall we have had, so for the first time in many years the barragem is actually full.. The Sao Domingos Barregem with the dam wall in view. There have been spectacular bags of carp taken near here using Pole or running line. There are some pretty heavy bait requirements to get the best out of this water, but we have a contact in Peniche who supplies all the bait and groundbait you will need. The Rio Arnoia Barregem at A Dos Negros with the dam wall in view. This beautiful barragem is likely to be developed for water sports at some point. As far as the fishing goes, it is really a bit of an unknown quantity. I have never fished it, nor do I know of anyone who has, but it is much closer to our bed and breakfast than the one at Peniche. When I get some time I will give it a go and see what happens. I am willing to bet that there are plenty of good fish to be caught, and so determining the methods should be enjoyable. Well...it's not actually a pub, but we are fortunate to have a cracking little village pub just five minutes from our B&B.
